Migraine-Friendly Recipes

Aloha Pork

3 pounds country style spare ribs
1 t oil
4 T vinegar
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
3/4 c ketchup
3 Granny Smith apples, chopped
  1. Salt and pepper the meat
  2. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours
  3. Drain the fat
  4. Mix the remaining ingredients in a bowl and pour over the meat
  5. Bake 45 minutes more, loosely covered with tin foil

Drop Scones

Preheat oven to 425F. Ready a large ungreased baking sheet.

Whisk together in a large bowl:

230g plain flour (1 2/3 cups)
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Whisk together in a different bowl:

160 ml milk (5 1/2 oz)
80 ml vegetble oil (3 oz)

Add liquid contents to the dry bowl and mix well. Spoon out portions the size of a walnut onto the cookie sheet separating them by 2 inches. Bake for 8 minutes, or until brown.

Pumpkin Cake

2 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups oil
4 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teas. salt
2 teas. soda
3 teas. cinnamon
1 1/2 cups pumpkin (1 can)

Mixed all of the ingredients together and then put the mixer on med-high for about 5 min. Then bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour in a prepared tube pan (check after 45 min.)

Cream cheese frosting:

   3 Tables. butter, soft
   3 oz. cream cheese, soft
   powdered sugar
   1 teas. vanilla (opt)

Beat together and spread on cooled cake.

Migraine-Friendly Spaghetti Sauce

1/2 pound ground beef or Honeysuckle White ground turkey (contains no MSG)
1-16oz. can diced tomatoes (Hunt's-no onion or garlic)
1-8oz can tomato sauce (Del Monte-no unspecified spices)
1-6oz can tomato paste (any brand with just tomatoes)
4-teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons oregano
1 3/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 bay leaf
  1. In 5-qt. Dutch oven over med. heat, cook ground beef until well-browned. Spoon off excess fat.
  2. Stir in tomatoes, their liquid, and remaining ingredients. Reduce heat to low; partially cover and simmer mixture 35 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Migraine-Friendly Soup

  1. Sanderson Farms chicken breasts, cooked and cut or Honeysuckle White ground turkey breast (these brands contain no extra "broth" which may contain MSG)
  2. Use only water or broth from cooking the chicken. Do not use broth from cans or cartons as they usually are flavored with onion or garlic or MSG
  3. Add salt, pepper, oregano to taste
  4. Add carrots, celery, zucchini, peas or potatos --> please DO NOT add onion, garlic, beans
  5. May add canned tomatoes as long as they do not contain onion, garlic, or unspecified spices(MSG)

Use Sanderson Farm chickens since they contain no added broth with MSG salt, pepper, small amount of rosemary
