Charles Sherman's Obituary

[Obituary for Charles W. Sherman given by Ruth Priutt to Mitch Fincher Jan 95]

Obituaries SHERMAN - Charles W. Sherman was born in Sullivan County, Indiana, March 18, 1852, and died Jan. 5, 1911. In September, 1872, he was married to Melinda Chastain. To this union five children were born, three of whom are living, and with their mother, are left to mourn. Brother Sherman accepted the truth about eighteen years ago, and has remained a faithful and loyal supporter thereof. Words of comfort were spoken by Elders W. D. Forde, E. F. Collier, and the writer. M.H. Serns.
[On the copy of the obituary Ruth had written the following]

Grandpa Sherman
This is your Great, Great Grandfather - preached all of his sermons from this Bible. He was a seventh day adventist.

Ruth Priutt also said that Grandpa Sherman was a drunk and came to a tent revival meeting while drunk and was saved. He later became a minister.

On Cora Sherman Chastain's Social Security Application she lists her father as "Charles Dudley Sherman", so the middle initial of "W" in this obituary may be wrong.

In other records Melinda is spelled Malinda.
